Carpet wool
The amount of wool in your carpet affects the quality, durability, lifetime and price of your carpet.
80/20 Wool/nylon
This is the most luxurious and expensive type of carpet. However, it has a very long life span and has a much thicker softer pile than carpets with a lower wool percentage.
50/50 Wool/nylon
This is a very good carpet for people who want a nicer quality carpet and do not have a lot of traffic through their houses.
Polypropylene carpet (man-made)
The man-made carpets in the modern age are so good that they are the most popular type of carpet bought by most people. They are hard wearing, pleasing to the eye, affordable and easier to keep clean. The only downside is that the lifetime use before it starts to look worn can be less that a wool carpet in high traffic areas.
How do I measure for a new carpet?
We would always recommend that we visit and measure up, however if you want to measure up we have a few tips…
We will need the width and length of the room. Remember that this is the widest points. Look out for any alcoves that fall back, such as chimney breasts or doorways.
Always add an extra 10-15cm on the width and length of the room to allow for cutting in the carpet. A little extra is always better than not enough.
If your room is an L shape, measure both room as a whole and as two separate rooms.
Carpets come in 4m and 5m wide so you must account for this when measuring. You may need a join in the carpet if your room is wider than this in any direction.
Plain
The most popular type of carpet. Plain carpets are versatile, practice and usually neutral.
Textured
Raised texture on a carpet can be an unusual feature to a home that can really make a statement if used correctly.
Striped
Striped carpets are very popular and are great on stairs and in rooms that can accommodate a bit of flair.
Patterned
If you really want to make a statement patterned carpets are the way to go. Don’t worry, modern designs are not all flowers and swirls.
